About Us

Girl Guides of Canada is a national organization which is administered locally by volunteers in their own communities. It is part of the worldwide Movement of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting overseen by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). WAGGGS has 10 million members in 145 countries around the world. There are approximately 180,000 members in Canada aged from 5 years and up.

West Kootenai Area Girl Guides Council looks after the members in an area covering Bridesville and Rock Creek in the west; Crawford Bay and Riondel in the east; the 49th parallel in the south; and Galena Bay and Trout Lake in the north. There are currently approximately 700 members in over a dozen communities within our Area.

West Kootenai Area is local in the south east of British Columbia, Canada . We include the towns of Grand Forks, Castlegar, Trail, Nelson and Nakusp. Located in the Selkirk Mountains, there are great places to fish, hike, ski and generally get outdoors. The area has natural hotsprings, lots of golf courses and fabulous scenery.
